April 2003

This month we are honoring the wishes of the yogi chosen to be April’s student of the month. This student declined the nomination to a desire to remain anonymous. As teachers of Bikram’s Yoga, we know that this style of yoga meets a wide range of needs among a diverse group of individuals who come to practice. Many come to the studio looking for a place to get away from the external, a place to find sanctuary within. Here many students comet o let go of their identities of “father,” “mother,” “sister,” “brother,” “doctor,” “lawyer,” or “Indian chief.” They find solace blending in with the whole synchronized movement of the group, neither standing apart nor standing out from it.

We appreciate and respect the feelings of those students. We therefore honor the anonymity of this student and yet continue to applaud the energy and amazing concentration of this dedicated yogi.
