Those of us at Bikram’s Yoga College of India at Burlingame instantly recognize Kevin Fitzmaurice as the office manager and teacher at the studio. Sometimes when he’s busily working the front desk or giving instructions in class, we forget that he is also a student, a regular practitioner. This “Outstanding Student Recognition” award is being dedicated to him because his practice as a student has been, in every sense of the word, outstanding.
To begin with, Kevin has the distinction of being the very first student to walk into the studio’s very first class. He practiced almost daily for over two years, and then went on to take Bikram’s teacher training in Los Angeles. Although Kevin has become extremely involved in the teaching and administration of the studio, he has maintained a dedicated practice of Bikram’s Beginning Yoga and, in fact, has taken his practice onto the next level of mastering and then teaching Bikram’s Advanced Class. Always striving to gain more knowledge about yoga, at this writing Kevin is away studying “Yin” yoga.
Kevin is a true yogi, practicing yoga on and off the mat. Not only physically flexible, Kevin has a flexible attitude: He is unflappable, truly “going with the flow.” Everyone who knows Kevin feels close to him. Perhaps it’s his calm, soothing nature, or his sincere humbleness that makes us all feel comfortable. Kevin is dedicated to the principles of yoga and is helping to spread those principles not only through his teaching but also through his example.
We all feel honored being able to associate with Kevin and practice our yoga alongside such an outstanding yoga student.
