Prudence Liew

September 2006

Prudence Liew first discovered yoga while pregnant with her third child. She had heard many people praise yoga over the years and wanted to try it out for herself. Prenatal yoga helped her to loosen tight muscles from years of intensive weight training and helped relieve her achy back from three pregnancies. One year ago, on the invitation of a friend, Prudence gave Bikram yoga a try and immediately fell in love with it. She now practices six days a week despite her busy schedule, and her enthusiasm for yoga is contagious. Even though she had an extensive workout history of weight training and cycling, Prudence says that doing Bikram yoga six days a week increased her muscle mass, helped her gain better definition, and loosened tight muscles.

Like most of us, Prudence admits, “It was all about the physical challenge in the beginning”. But after pulling muscles from pushing too far, she says, “It was then that I learned I seriously needed to be more in tune with my body and not push over the limit. Yoga practice helps bring more attention to myself, both physically and mentally”. About a month ago, Prudence decided to delve further inward with her yoga experience and she joined the meditation workshop. She says, “It used to be self discipline and determination that kept me coming back to the studio; And now it’s the wonders of the journey that keeps bringing me back for more…it’s so amazing to see how the simplicity of yoga works in the human body and soul! Every practice is like the beginning of a journey and you discover something new”. Prudence is a positive, motivated, and enthusiastic student and we are glad to honor her as our September Student of the Month.
